2018 Abstract: Powerboat Sales Trends Report Now Available

The third section of NMMA’s 2018 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract, Powerboat Sales Trends, is now available in the Statistics section of NMMA.org.

The 2018 Powerboat Sales Trends report includes annual retail unit sales totals by propulsion category, market share data by length and boat type, estimated total annual retail sales and average price information.

The data show retail unit sales of new outboard, inboard and sterndrive boats were up 3 percent in 2018, and corresponding dollars were up 10 percent. Retail sales of new outboard boats, which include fishing and pontoon boats, were up for the eighth consecutive year in 2018 to an 11-year high of 177,600 units. New inboard boat sales were up 9 percent to 12,400 units in 2018, primarily due to an 11 percent increase in sales of inboard tow boats.

NMMA continues to release each section of the Abstract as statistics become available, making this critical industry data much more timely and valuable. Below is the release schedule for the remaining sections in the 2018 Abstract:

  • June: Pre-owned Boat Market; Cruiser, Watersport, Fishing Boat and Trailer Sales Trends; Boat and Engine Exports and Imports; Total Industry Sales by Category and State
  • July: Total Boat Registrations
  • August: Full Report

NMMA members receive unlimited complimentary access to the digital versions of each section of the Statistical Abstract as they become available, in addition to the full compilation report, which will be released in July. This report is the most comprehensive collection of industry data and a trusted source for recreational boating statistics.

Digital versions of the reports are available for purchase by non-NMMA members here; the Powerboat Sales Trends report is $1,799 for non-members. NMMA members can also pre-order copies of the print version of the full compilation report; the print version is $225 for members.
