NMMA Joins Governor Ayotte for New Hampshire Safe Boating Press Conference and Life Jacket Giveaway
On June 11, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA) joined New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire Marine Patrol, state legislators, and boating stakeholders for a safe boating press conference and life jacket giveaway at Marine Patrol Headquarters to promote responsible recreation on New Hampshire’s waterways.
The event highlighted the launch of the Boating NH campaign, centered around the message: “Live Free. Boat Smart. Show Respect.” The campaign encourages boaters to be courteous, own their wake, avoid sensitive habitats, include safety on their boat, clean, drain, and dry equipment to prevent the spread of invasive species, navigate with knowledge, and have fun while recreating responsibly.
As part of the event, NMMA hosted a life jacket giveaway to help expand access to critical safety equipment for families, youth camps, fire departments, and local communities across the state. Legislators and local partners helped connect the giveaway with organizations in their districts to ensure the life jackets are put to use throughout the summer.
The press conference also reinforced the importance of uniform statewide standards for wake surfing and responsible boating practices. Boating NH messaging encourages wake sports participants to stay 200 feet or more from shore and other objects in the water, surf in deep water, lower music volumes, and limit repetitive passes in one area.
“As we launch into boating season, each of us has a role to play to keep our waterways safe, fun, and clean,” said Governor Ayotte. “Our rivers, lakes, and coastal waters are among our state’s greatest treasures, and we’re going to make sure everyone can enjoy them safely for years to come. I look forward to seeing Granite Staters and visitors alike enjoying a beautiful summer on the water!”
Several New Hampshire lawmakers attended the event, including Executive Councilor Joe Kenney, State Senator Mark McConkey, State Senator Tim Lang, Representative Will Darby, Representative John MacDonald, Representative Matt Coker, Representative Tanya Donnelly, Representative Brian Taylor, Representative Allison Knab, and Representative Nick Bridle.
NMMA appreciated the opportunity to join Governor Ayotte, New Hampshire Marine Patrol, state legislators, and local partners in reinforcing the importance of safe, respectful, and informed boating. NMMA continues to work with state leaders, marine law enforcement, and local partners across the region to support boater education, safe recreation, and policies that preserve responsible access to public waterways.
