North Carolina Leaders Open 2026 Discover Boating Mid-Atlantic Boat Show in Charlotte

State and federal officials joined marine industry leaders Thursday, Feb. 5, to open the 2026 Discover Boating® Mid-Atlantic Boat Show at the Charlotte Convention Center, underscoring the importance of strong partnerships between policymakers and North Carolina’s recreational boating industry.

The presence of North Carolina state senators and staff representatives from U.S. Senate offices at the ribbon cutting highlighted the growing role elected officials play in shaping policies that affect boating access, marine manufacturing, and waterfront development. Their participation gave industry leaders an opportunity to engage directly with lawmakers on issues affecting local marine businesses, from public access to waterways to investments in boating infrastructure.

The annual show drew thousands of consumers to downtown Charlotte and served as a major economic driver for the region. The event featured more than 400 boats for sale, show-only pricing from dealers and manufacturers, and immersive experiences that showcased Carolina boating culture.

Recreational boating contributes $9.1 billion annually to North Carolina’s economy and supports more than 28,000 jobs across nearly 1,000 businesses statewide. The state ranks fourth nationally in marine expenditures, reflecting the sector’s importance to local communities and the state’s broader outdoor recreation economy.

Events like the Discover Boating Mid-Atlantic Boat Show are a great way to connect elected officials with the real-world impacts of marine policy. Through its state government relations efforts, NMMA advances policies that protect boater access to public waters, expand and modernize boating infrastructure, and support a competitive environment for U.S. boatbuilders and suppliers. NMMA also works to promote innovation in marine technology and sustainability, helping ensure long term growth for the industry.
