Industry Leaders Gather at NMMA Canada Industry Breakfast During Toronto International Boat Show
NMMA Canada hosted its annual Industry Breakfast in conjunction with the Toronto International Boat Show on Jan. 20, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and boating enthusiasts to highlight the state of Canada’s recreational boating industry.
Nearly 200 industry leaders and stakeholders attended the sold-out event, which provided a forum for discussion on the priorities shaping the industry’s future, including manufacturing competitiveness, access to waterways, workforce development, sustainability and practical, evidence-based regulation.
The strong turnout reflected growing momentum across the industry following recent federal policy changes, most notably the repeal of the federal luxury tax on boats. Throughout TIBS, NMMA Canada heard consistent feedback from members pointing to increased consumer interest and improving business activity, reinforcing the importance of competitive tax and regulatory frameworks that support domestic manufacturing and long-term growth.
Jean-François Rioux of Yamaha Canada was inducted into the NMMA Canada Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions and three-decade career as a long-standing advocate for the growth of recreational boating nationwide.

During the show, NMMA Canada also hosted a media event at the booth of ENVGO, an Ontario-based manufacturer member showcasing hydrofoil, electric and low-emission propulsion technologies. The event highlighted Canadian leadership in marine innovation and advanced manufacturing and featured remarks from Ontario Premier Doug Ford, a long-time supporter of the recreational marine industry and manufacturing workforce. NMMA Canada was joined by Rick Layzell of Boating Ontario, Linda Waddell of Canadian Boat Shows and Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming of Ontario.
From advocacy that helped deliver the repeal of the luxury tax to ongoing work on infrastructure, waterway access and smart regulation, NMMA Canada remains focused on delivering results for members and advancing a competitive recreational boating industry across Canada.
