Smoker Craft, Inc. Hosts Constructive Meetings with Indiana Governor Mike Braun and Canadian Trade Representatives
On October 24, Smoker Craft, Inc. hosted Indiana Governor Mike Braun and representatives from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) for a productive meeting at the company’s New Paris, Indiana facility. The discussion centered on several key issues impacting Indiana’s marine manufacturing community.
During the meeting, Smoker Craft leadership discussed a range of pressing topics with Governor Braun, including Indiana’s energy plans for manufacturers, the EPA’s recent inclusion of styrene on its watch list, and the impact of tariffs and rising aluminum prices on U.S. boat production. Governor Braun reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting small and medium-sized manufacturers through emerging tax policies that enhance competitiveness. He also underscored the importance of workforce development and housing initiatives in sustaining Indiana’s manufacturing leadership and ensuring companies like Smoker Craft, Inc. can continue to grow and thrive.
Following the meeting with Governor Braun, Smoker Craft, Inc. welcomed Myriam Belisle and Abigail Carr from the Canadian Consulate in Chicago, who represent the Government of Québec, for a productive discussion and tour of the company’s facilities. Discussions focused on cross-border trade issues affecting the recreational boating industry, such as tariffs on aluminum extrusions and Québec’s Bill 96, which requires businesses operating in the province to communicate and provide documentation in French. Smoker Craft leadership also highlighted the company’s strong presence in the Canadian market through its Starcraft, Sunchaser, Sylvan, Smoker Craft, and Legend (Canada) boat brands — underscoring its important contributions to both the U.S. and Canadian economies through boat sales, distribution, and employment.
Smoker Craft, Inc. and NMMA extend our thanks to all participants for their engagement and collaboration during these important discussions. The meetings provided valuable insights into shared challenges and opportunities facing the recreational boating sector across North America, reinforcing the importance of coordinated advocacy and continued dialogue between policymakers, manufacturers, and trade partners.
