NMMA Hosts Boating Technology Day in Michigan
This week, NMMA met with staff members of the Michigan legislature and state policy makers responsible for developing Michigan’s Maritime Strategy, which will position the state as a leader in maritime innovation, to discuss the technologies to further improve recreational boating emissions and efficiency.
Presentations focused on the recreational boating industry’s environmental leadership and reduction of emissions through a portfolio of technologies, outlined in the global research report from ICOMIA, titled Pathways to Propulsion Decarbonization for the Recreational Marine Industry. Presentations were delivered by Ilmor Engineering (which hosted the event at its New Hudson, Mich. facility), Mercury Marine, Suzuki Marine and Yamaha Motor Corp., followed by on-water boat demonstrations by NMMA members operating on Strategic Maritime Fuels (SMF), as well as hybrid and electric propulsion systems.
“Michigan ranks second in boat registrations and third in boating-related expenditures in the U.S, so their maritime strategy, and its recognition of the multiple technologies for recreational boating, carries significant weight, particularly as the U.S. seeks to lead in maritime innovation,” said Jeff Wasil, vice president of environmental compliance and marine technology at NMMA.
