Labor Secretary Visits South Carolina Boat Builder, Underscoring Importance of U.S. Marine Manufacturing

Last week, U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer visited NMMA member company Stingray Boats in Hartsville, South Carolina, for a firsthand look at American marine manufacturing in action. The visit—joined by U.S. Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07)—highlighted the critical role of the recreational boating industry in supporting skilled jobs, small businesses, and economic growth across the country.
As Secretary Chavez-DeRemer toured the facility, she met with local workers, discussed workforce development, and saw up close the craftsmanship behind the American-made boats that power the $230 billion marine economy.
NMMA continues to emphasize Boatbuilding is not only an iconic American craft—it is a vital part of our domestic manufacturing base and a key driver of the $1.2 trillion outdoor economy. Policymaker visits like this one are essential to helping the Administration and Congress better understand the boating industry's needs and contributions. With 95% of boats sold in the U.S. made in the U.S., and 93% of boat builders being small businesses, NMMA is working to ensure the voices of boat builders, suppliers, and dealers are heard at the highest levels of government.

NMMA thanks Secretary Chavez-DeRemer and Congressman Fry for their leadership and recognition of our industry.
