NMMA Collaborates with Wisconsin Community to Promote Boating Safety

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) partnered with the Pewaukee Police Department to host a highly successful life jacket giveaway at the Pewaukee Kiwanis Beach Party, presented by North Shore Bank. The event drew over 1,000 attendees, with excitement evident as many community members lined up before it even began.

All 200 life jackets were distributed, properly fitted for adults and children to ensure safe summer activities on the water. Community members expressed enthusiasm, with many recalling NMMA’s support from previous years and appreciating the ongoing commitment to water safety. Wisconsin law mandates that children under 13 wear life jackets while a vessel is underway, as drowning remains a leading cause of accidental death among children. Properly fitting life jackets are critical in preventing these tragedies, and this event raised awareness while equipping attendees with essential safety gear.

Kent Seflow, Pewaukee Kiwanis Club President, Luke Twelmeyer from the Village of Pewaukee, and Sergeant Melissa Schmackle of the Pewaukee Police Department especially encouraged by the community’s excitement around the life jacket giveaway. Pewaukee Police Chief Timothy Heier praised the partnership, stating, “We are very appreciative of our strong relationship with the NMMA to ensure that members of our community stay safe on the water. The annual Beach Party is a great way to celebrate Pewaukee, and we were pleased to combine family fun with water safety education.”

Jesse McArdell, NMMA’s Midwest Policy and Engagement Manager, added, “NMMA is thrilled about the collaboration with the Pewaukee Police Department on our life jacket giveaway program to enhance boating safety in their community. We strive to provide everyone on the water with vital safety equipment, fostering a safer and more enjoyable boating experience.”

The event highlighted the value of water safety, fostered stronger community bonds, and equipped attendees for a safer, more enjoyable summer on the water.
