Marine Technology & Sustainable Marine Fuels Featured at the American Boating Congress

This week, leaders from across the recreational boating industry came together at the 2025 American Boating Congress (ABC) in Washington, D.C. During the event, NMMA and its members hosted an American Recreational Boating Technology Demo at the Washington Marina with Congressional staff and administration officials.

Speakers highlighted the need to prioritize the development and distribution of sustainable marine fuels; partnering with governments and the global industry to establish marine EV standards and consumer safety protocols; and expanding R&D investments to improve marine biofuels and e-fuels development, hydrogen research and battery density, among other things.

These efforts are a key part of the Propelling Our Future global  industry-wide initiative to ensure the long-term resilience of the recreational boating industry and advance the development of innovative technologies.

The demo event also showcased several of these new and emerging marine technologies, including:

  • A boat that runs on sustainable marine fuels, in partnership with Suzuki Marine. These high-quality, renewable drop-in fuels. These alternative fuels help reduce emissions and are 100% drop-in, meaning they require no changes to the boat, engine or fuel system with no impact on range or performance.
  • In partnership with Yamaha, a boat outfitted with revolutionary WAVS warning technology, helping to maintain access to America’s waterways while protecting marine life.
  • A boat equipped with Mercury Marine’s joystick piloting, Seakeeper stabilization and Simrad electronics, in partnership with Brunswick Corporation.
