Senate Confirms Robert Lighthizer as U.S. Trade Representative
After months of delays, President Trump’s nomination for U.S. Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer was confirmed yesterday by a vote of 82-14.
Lighthizer’s approval will pave the way to kick start negotiations for the Trump Administrations trade agenda, which has largely been on hold since he was first announced in January. It is expected that Lighthizer’s first act as U.S. Trade Ambassador will be to renegotiate the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) – which plays a major role in the boating industry as Canada is the largest U.S. trading partner and Mexico coming in at third.
NMMA will continue to monitor upcoming actions on expected NAFTA renegotiation. If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Vasilaros at [email protected].
