ABBRA (American Boat Builders and Repairers Association) is currently coordinating a workforce development survey designed to gather information needed by all state and national recreational marine trade associations to advocate for their members. It is meant to provide real data about the recreational marine industry's workforce that legislators and the Department of Labor ask for when considering our requests for funding and/or support for technical training.

 

This survey will assist marine trade association leaders in offering guidance and support to their members on the workforce development front. ABBRA believes the industry's businesses need help developing a plan to upskill and train their workers based on resources currently available to them. They also believe that marine trade associations play a key role in advocating for their employers and one of their priorities must be helping their member's businesses address the lack of technically skilled workers, commonly referred to as a "skills gap".

 

The American Boat Builder & Repairers Assoc. (ABBRA), the Marine Industry Training & Education Council (MITEC), Maine Marine Trades Association (MMTA), and Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA), have designed a day long Super Session to be held on Sept. 14th at IBEX for the purpose of educating employers operating businesses in the recreational marine industry about their options for hiring, training and upskilling technically skilled workers.
