Boat dismantling network in Europe, Sweden’s new dismantling project

When a boat reaches the end of its useful life, it is often complicated to find out how the craft can be disposed of in a responsible and environmentally sound manner. After having identified dismantling companies working with boats throughout Europe, the Boat DIGEST project announced the creation of an online map showing existing dismantling sites in the various countries in Europe.

The online dismantling network map is available here: http://boatdigest.eu/dismantling-network.asp. It will be updated on a regular basis and the listing is free of charge.

Recreational craft dismantlers or FRP management companies who wish to appear on this European map, please contact the Boat DIGEST team: http://boatdigest.eu/contact.asp.

On this front, Sweden has set up a voluntary dismantling scheme. Sweboat (Swedish Marine Industries Federation) together with Båtskroten Sverige AB (Sweden’s first commercial boat recycling company) and Stena Recycling AB (Sweden’s leading recycling company) have started a project with the aim to build up a national widespread system for recycling recreational craft.

The project, expected to last until the second half of 2015, is funded by its members and with money from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth – Tillväxtverket, as well as the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management – Havs och Vattenmyndigheten.
