NMMA Releases Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) today announced its 2010 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract — the most comprehensive collection of recreational boating data – is available online for NMMA members to download at no cost. A DVD version is also available and can be purchased by members and non-members.
Containing the most current market facts and figures available, the Abstract quantifies the economic impact of recreational boating and presents detailed charts and graphs on registrations, sales, expenditures, participation, the retail market, imports/exports, the pre-owned boat market and more. Data is analyzed by market segment, region and state, enabling you to identify regional and segment trends.
Among the 2010 Abstract highlights:
- Updated demographic data on boating participants and owners including demographics on the type of boat owned
- Economic data including an analysis of boaters' expenditures and trip spending, expenditures by state, as well as the economic value of boating by state
- An expanded import/export section featuring profiles of the top five trading partners for the U.S.
A valuable resource, the 2010 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract provides the industry with one common set of numbers to reference when assessing the recreational marine market. The information is also an invaluable tool for government relations and industry advocacy efforts.
The Abstract reveals that of the 231.5 million adults living in the United States in 2010, 32.4 percent, or 75 million people, participated in recreational boating. This is the highest proportion of participation in recreational boating since 1999 when 33.4 percent of adults were boating participants.
NMMA also reports that the boaters who took to the water in 2010 helped keep the industry afloat. Aftermarket accessory sales increased six percent to $2.4 billion (from $2.3 billion in 2009) and spending per boat averaged $147 for 2010, also up six percent from 2009. NMMA notes there are an estimated 17 million boats in use in the United States.
For more valuable data and insights on the recreational boating industry, the Abstract is available for immediate download for those members who have renewed their membership for the 2011/2012 membership year, which began June 1. As an NMMA member, your first PDF copy of the 2010 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract can be downloaded for free from the Statistics section on www.nmma.org.
