NMMA Meets with State Policymakers, Staff to Promote Outdoor Recreation at National Conference of State Legislatures

The NMMA team last week met with dozens of state lawmakers, staff, agencies, and more at the annual National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the nation’s premier bipartisan gathering of state legislators and staff, in Denver, Colorado from August 1-3, 2022.

The conference hosted more than 1,000 attendees from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, including lawmakers, agency officials, and key staff. Conference attendees were able to visit with National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) staff in the exhibit hall which featured an outdoor recreation industry booth with partners from the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) and the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (ARVC).

The team spoke with dozens of lawmakers and staff on the importance of the recreational boating and fishing industry as a key economic driver in communities across the country, including the economic impact generated by the recreational boating and fishing industry in their home states.

NMMA President Frank Hugelmeyer, alongside representatives from Denver Parks and Recreation, Denver’s Greenway Foundation, Utah State Representative Jeff Stenquist and Colorado State Representative Leslie Herod, spoke on a panel titled, “Scaling Outdoor Recreation: Scaling New Heights.” Conversation focused on the importance of the $689 billion outdoor recreation industry, especially investing in infrastructure and outdoor-oriented manufacturers and businesses at a time when more Americans than ever before continue turning to the great outdoors to experience the sense of freedom and joy that comes with being on our nation’s waters.
