New Powerboat Registrations Up 3.6 Percent through April

NMMA’s New Powerboat Registrations Report has been updated through April 2018 and preliminary data shows new powerboat registrations were up 3.6 percent on a rolling 12-month year-over-year basis (R12M YOY). Sales of cruisers, tow boats, personal watercraft, saltwater fishing boats, freshwater fishing boats and yachts all grew on both a R12M and R3M basis, indicating expanding growth.  

 
Highlights from the report include:
  • Cruisers, tow boats and outboard-propelled runabouts were up 8 to 9 percent R12M YOY.
  • Sterndrive cruisers, personal watercraft, pontoons, yachts, saltwater fishing boats and freshwater fishing boats were up 3 to 4 percent R12M YOY.
  • Registrations of larger boats 27’ and greater were up 11.9 percent R12M YOY. Of these, growth was led by saltwater fishing boats, which were up 17.2 percent.
