Fuel Additive Test Specification Continues

The NMMA Fuel Additives Subcommittee continues to make progress on a test specification for marine engine fuel additives. This work was initiated at the request of the marine engine manufacturers for protection of their products and for protection of consumers of marine engines.

The fuel additives test specification will be based on four qualifications: basic fuel stabilization, corrosion protection, water handling limitation and deposit control.

Work continues in the development of tests and approvals systems for each qualification. Although good progress has been made by the subcommittee on the test spec, the subcommittee cautions fuel additive users that neither the tests nor the product approval system have been completed, and that there are no products on the market today that have been certified to this test specification.
