The company hopes to immerse delegates, Members of Congress and staff in the boating lifestyle, helping them to better understand the overwhelming impact that recreational boat, engine and accessory manufacturing has on the U.S. economy.

WHERE: Hula Bay Club in Tampa, Florida

WHEN:  Today, August 28, 2012 from 4-7pm EST

WHAT: Tips for enjoying a safe day on the water, the latest in technology and “green boating” as well as top policy issues facing the industry such as the introduction of high ethanol fuels in the marketplace.

WHO: NMMA member marine manufacturers from across the U.S. will join the event. These are small business owners who are working to aid the economic recovery through their commitment to ensuring that domestic marine manufacturing remains one of the anchors of the U.S. economy.

WHY: Recreational boating is a uniquely American manufacturing industry with 83 percent of boats sold in the U.S. manufactured in the U.S. and an important contributor to the U.S. economy with a $72 billion annual economic impact and an estimated 350,000 direct American jobs. Recreational boating is also a net exporter for the U.S.: in 2011 boat exports were up 44 percent above the 16-year average of $1.2 billion. Marine manufacturing has a particularly strong impact on the state of Florida, ranked first for new powerboat, motor, trailer and accessories sales. In 2010, there were 914,535 registered recreational boats in the state.  Total retail sales for new powerboat, boat motor, trailers and accessories in 2010 totaled over $1.1 billion, providing approximately 30,065 boat building and related manufacturing jobs.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: NMMA encourages its members, marine industry stakeholders and members of the media to attend and learn more about the boating lifestyle and the positive impact marine manufacturing has on the U.S. Contact Lauren Dunn at 202-280-6928 or [email protected] to attend or for more information including photos or interviews with key NMMA staff.
