NMMA Applauds Congressional Resolution Recognizing National Fishing and Boating Week

Today, NMMA hailed Representatives Dave Joyce (R-OH-14) and Joyce Beatty (D-OH-03) for introducing House Resolution 871, which seeks to designate the week of June 2, 2018 through June 10, 2018 as National Fishing and Boating Week. NMMA worked with both offices to put forth the resolution in recognition of the importance of the recreational boating and fishing industries.

“Thanks to the leadership of Representative Joyce and Representative Beatty, and support from Congressional Boating Caucus co-chairs, Representative Lois Frankel and Representative Tom MacArthur, Congress is acknowledging the importance of each and every one of America’s 142 million recreational boaters,” said NMMA’s President, Thom Dammrich. “Boating and fishing are beloved American pastimes that also happen to be significant contributors to our economy, driving an estimated $39 billion of U.S. GDP annually, as part of the outdoor recreation economy, which represents two percent of U.S. GDP.”

Dammrich continued, “June also happens to be Great Outdoors Month, and one of the busiest months for boating and fishing across our country, making it a good time to highlight the 650,000 American workers behind the scenes who are supported by the industry and make recreational boating possible. From boats and fishing gear to marinas and dealerships, we are proud of the impact recreational boating and fishing have on people’s lives, and are grateful to be formally recognized for it by Congress. As the summer boating and fishing season kicks off, we’re eager to continue working with Members of Congress to ensure our industry remains a positive force in support of the economy, outdoor recreation, and our nation’s waterways.”
