NMMA Announces New House Co-Chairs of the Congressional Boating Caucus for 115th Congress

The National Marine Manufacturers Association welcomes new House of Representative co-chairs of the Congressional Boating Caucus, Representative Lois Frankel (D-Florida) and Representative Tom MacArthur (R-New Jersey), and looks forward to working with these leaders to grow the Caucus and illustrate the importance of boating to advance a strong marine agenda during the 115th Congress.

“I am thrilled to join as Co-Chair of the U.S. House Boating Caucus,” said Congressman MacArthur. “As a Shore resident and active boater in the great state of New Jersey, I have seen firsthand just how much beauty and value the waters bring to our state. The tourism industry on the Shore relies on recreational boating, and I look forward to protecting access for my fellow boaters.”

Congresswoman Frankel echoed MacArthur’s sentiments about joining the Congressional Boating Caucus, emphasizing the significance of the recreational boating industry to the Florida economy.

“The recreational marine industry creates thousands of jobs in South Florida and contributes more than $10 billion in economic impact to our state,” noted Frankel.

Rep. Frankel is on the House Infrastructure and Transportation committee and has been a big supporter of boating, co-sponsoring the Deferred Importation Bill in 2016 and pushing the United States Coast Guard to fix model year and update engine regulations in the 2015 USCG Authorization Bill. Rep. MacArthur is an avid boating enthusiast and strong supporter of recreational boating and angling.

NMMA staff has already reached out to new Members of Congress to encourage them to join the Congressional Boating Caucus and support the boating industry, which drives $121.5 billion dollars in economic impact annually, 650,000 jobs and 35,000 US businesses.

The Congressional Boating Caucus is an informal, bipartisan group of U.S. Senators and Representatives formed in 1989 to advocate for the interests of the recreational boating industry. It is comprised of about 120 members, and NMMA hopes to grow the Caucus in 2017. Contact Nicole Vasilaros, [email protected], with questions.
