The seventh section report of NMMA's 2015 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract, titled Industry Sales by Category and State 2002–2015, is now available for download by NMMA members here.
This year, the Statistical Abstract, which contains thousands of data points and insights on the boating industry, features a new format and schedule with each section released individually as the statistics are available.
Highlights from NMMA’s Industry Sales by Category and State 2002–2015 report include:
- Total recreational marine expenditures reached an 8-year high of $35.9 billion in 2015, up 2.2% from 2014 and reflecting a 26% drop in fuel prices.
- New boat expenditures were up 6.9%, reflecting a 7.4% gain in units sold. Pre-owned boat expenditures were up 3.4%, primarily reflecting a 9.8% increase in pre-owned inboard ski/wakeboard boats sold.
- Florida ranked first in total expenditures for new powerboats, outboard engines, trailer and aftermarket accessories, with spending up by 11.4% in 2015 and is also the top state in terms of total boat registrations.
