Services

The Engineering Standards Department of NMMA is responsible for providing technical support to NMMA members, staff and consumers.

Major Engineering Standards Programs

• Third Party Certification Programs
  • Oversight of boat, yacht and trailer certification applications and inspections, and subsequent approval.
  • Issuing certification labels for the inspected products
  • Invoicing for the service and associated labels, etc.
  • Type acceptance of regulated boat/trailer components
• Producing an annual Engineering Compliance Seminar
  • Forum for presentations and discussion of certification standards
  • Coordinating industry recognized speakers/presenters
• Industry representative to American Boat and Yacht Council/Society of Automotive Engineers/National Fire Protection Association technical committees, and actively involved with the development of industry standards.
• Industry representative to U.S. Coast Guard/Department of Transportation and federal regulatory development.
• Industry/U.S. representative to International Standards Organization (ISO) standards development, ensuring U.S. industry products are not jeopardized/penalized by ISO standards.


• Participation in ICOMIA and European standards harmonization.
