2020 U.S. Boating Statistical Abstract: Powerboat Sales Trends Report Now Available

The Powerboat Sales Trends section of NMMA’s 2020 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract is now available on NMMA.org. This section includes retail sales trends for new traditional powerboats for 2020 in each of the four propulsion categories (outboard, sterndrive, inboard, and jet), as well as data from 2008-2020, as well as top selling states for each boat category. In 2020, a surge in consumer demand for boating led to a banner year for boat sales; new traditional powerboat sales reached a 13-year high, up 14.1% compared to 2019.

Other key insights from the report include:

  • Retail sales of new outboard boats were up 14% to 197,500 units in 2020, the highest unit sales total since 2007.
  • Inboard boat retail sales were up 20.5% to a thirteen-year high of 15,300 units.

The remaining sections and the full edition (digital and printed) of the 2020 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract will be available later this summer.

Please note the former boat registrations section of the annual Abstract is transitioning to a stand-alone report, and the 2020 edition will be released later this year.
