Take Action: Stop Chinese Tariffs from Impacting the U.S. Marine Industry
NMMA is encouraging all sectors of the industry to take action and share their voice to stop Chinese tariffs from impacting the U.S. marine industry. As reported in Currents earlier this week, a recent determination by the US Trade Representative (USTR) to impose a 25% tariff, under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, targets more than 1,300 Chinese products, including critical marine components and manufacturing equipment. The proposed 25% tariff would tax U.S. manufacturers on goods imported from China without guaranteeing China end their unfair trade practices, while significantly increasing the risk of Chinese retaliation on U.S. products.
Making matters worse, this 301 tariff includes many aluminum and steel parts that are already facing separate tariff action through Section 232 and an antidumping action. An additional 25% tariff on aluminum component products on top of a worldwide aluminum tariff and common alloy sheet tariff would be catastrophic.
The public comment period to voice your opposition to the 301 tariff action ends May 22, 2018! The USTR and the Administration need to hear from you NOW! With so much at stake for the recreational marine industry, it is important you let your voice be heard and take action today. CLICK HERE TO TAKE ACTION.
