NMMA Data Dashboard: New Updates Now Available

The latest version of the NMMA Data Dashboard is now available, including performance indicators on wholesale and retail sales of powerboats and outboard engines, economic metrics, and interactive graphs illustrating recent and historical trends.

Recent updates include:

  • Consumer confidence lowered slightly in August to 135.1, following a near record-high in July. Consumers’ sentiments on current economic conditions improved slightly in August but were offset by a slight decline in short-term outlooks.
  • The preliminary Consumer Sentiment Index for September is 92.0, reflecting modest improvement in consumers’ current and short-term outlooks. This is up from the final August reading of 89.8.
  • The August Small Business Optimism Index was 103.1, down from 104.7 in July. Despite primarily reflecting a decrease in short-term outlooks, small business owners reported gains in employment, sales and capital expenditures.
  • The U.S. Purchasing Managers Index, an indicator of economic activity in the manufacturing sector in which values at 50 and above generally indicate growth and values at 49.9 and below generally indicate contraction, was 49.1 in August, down from 51.2 in July. August marked the first time U.S. PMI has edged below 50 since August 2016, with a notable decline in export orders last month.
  • According to the August PMIs for the top 20 country destinations for U.S. boat exports, the manufacturing economies in 12 of those countries were generally contracting. The August PMIs for Canada and Germany were 49.1 and 43.5, respectively.
