Senate and House agree to measure, ending 3-day government shutdown

Yesterday, the Senate and House came to an agreement to end the 3-day government shutdown. NMMA’s federal government affairs team remained in close contact with Capitol Hill as negotiations transpired. Senate Democrats received a commitment from Republicans to bring an immigration bill forward by February 8th.  This commitment effectively ended the legislative stalemate on government funding, and the Senate passed a Continuing Resolution that funds the government until February 8th.  The House followed suit shortly after and the measure was signed into law by President Trump.

In addition to regular funding of the government, the package also reauthorizes the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years, delays the Obamacare medical device and Cadillac tax for two years and its health insurance tax for one year.

NMMA’s federal affairs team will continue to monitor the situation as it develops, and will be engaged in the appropriations process to advocate for the needs of marine manufacturers and the recreational boating community.
