Virginia database to verify boater safety course compliance
Beginning in July 2018, Virginia law enforcement will be able to quickly verify that a boater has passed the state’s boater safety course. SB 866, which was signed into law this week by Governor Terry McAuliffe, orders the creation of a database allowing for on-water verification of boater safety course graduates. Law enforcement will not issue a citation for failure to have the safety card on hand until after the database has been checked for evidence that the boater has completed the course.
