Virginia database to verify boater safety course compliance

Beginning in July 2018, Virginia law enforcement will be able to quickly verify that a boater has passed the state’s boater safety course.  SB 866, which was signed into law this week by Governor Terry McAuliffe, orders the creation of a database allowing for on-water verification of boater safety course graduates.  Law enforcement will not issue a citation for failure to have the safety card on hand until after the database has been checked for evidence that the boater has completed the course.  For more information, contact David Dickerson at [email protected].
