Landmark TSCA Reform Compromise Reached

In a show of bipartisan support leaders from both the House and Senate this week struck a deal to reform the decades-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) after years of complaints that it is ineffective and causes uncertainty for businesses. The goal of TSCA is to provide much needed regulatory clarity and certainty to businesses across the country, while improving the safety of domestic products for both consumers and employees alike.

NMMA supported reform and signed on to a letter, along with 135 other associations, that was sent to all 435 House members and 100 Senators. And last night, the House voted to pass the reform bill, with the Senate scheduled to take up the measure in the coming days. The White House is also supportive of the agreement, and the President has indicated he will sign the bill into law when it reaches his desk, possibly as soon as over the Memorial Day Weekend.
