California Fish and Game Commission votes to investigate fishing license changes

The California Fish and Game Commission voted unanimously today to investigate a change to the state’s fishing license system that would give anglers greater value for the costly fees they pay. Currently, licenses expire on Dec. 31, regardless of when they are bought.  The change under consideration would make licenses good for 12 months from the date of purchase.  Commissioners were reacting to a study released by the California Sportfishing League (CSL) showing that California fishing licenses are among the most expensive in the country.  NMMA is a founding member of CSL. The change to a 12-month license in other states has led to an increase in license sales. For more information, click here.
