House of Representatives Passes National Boating Day Resolution

Klein-Brown resolution declares July 1 as National Boating Day

Chicago, IL

June 10, 2009 – Yesterday night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 410 which designates July 1, 2009 as National Boating Day in recognition of the important role recreational boating and the boating industry play in the lives and health of the nation’s 59 million boaters and the U.S. economy.

House Resolution 410 was introduced by Congressmen Ron Klein (D-Fla.) and Henry Brown (R-S.C.), along with Congressional Boating Caucus Co-Chairs Candice Miller (R-Mich.) and Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) and passed with 27 bipartisan co-sponsors. It must now move through the Senate before the President can issue a national proclamation in observance of the day.

“NMMA and the entire boating community congratulates and applauds Representatives Klein, Brown, Miller, and Taylor, and all of the resolution’s co-sponsors, for their work in ushering National Boating Day through the Congress so quickly,” said NMMA President Thom Dammrich. “This resolution affirms Congress’ commitment to the U.S. recreational boating industry and the importance of spending time on the water with family for so many Americans.”
