Membership Divisions and Eligibility
NMMA Membership is open to four classifications which are outlined below. For manufacturers, NMMA membership dues are based on North American annual sales in the marine industry with an opening level of $1000. Associate members pay an annual flat fee of $650 per year. Please click here for details on the fee structure. NMMA membership is open to any business that meets the divisional requirements outlined below.
Accessory Manufacturer Division (AMD)
The AMD represents companies that manufacture marine equipment and materials used in the construction or upgrade of a boat or that produce marine-related products used to enhance the boating experience.
AMD applicants outside North America must have a certificate of authority from one state of the United States showing it is legally authorized to conduct business in that state, thereby submitting to its jurisdiction. Without such proof, application for NMMA membership will not be considered.
Boat Manufacturer Division (BMD)
The BMD consists of business entities that manufacture or import boats and represents the full spectrum of recreational boats, from row boats and canoes to inboard cruisers and mega-yachts.
Participation in the NMMA Boat and Yacht Certification is a requirement of BMD membership. Manufacturers producing products that are eligible for the Discover Boating Initiative will be required to contribute through the Grow Boating funding program which is an industry-wide effort to promote the boating lifestyle. Engine Manufacturer Division (EMD)
An EMD member is a business entity that manufactures marine propulsion engines.
EMD applicants outside North America must have a certificate of authority from at least one state of the United States showing it is legally authorized to conduct business in that state, thereby submitting to its jurisdiction. Without such proof, application for NMMA membership will not be considered by any propulsion manufacturing firm outside North America.
An Associate member is a business entity that provides a service to the marine industry and/or the general boating consumer. Eligible boat dealers and retailers must be an authorized dealer/retailer of a new boat brand manufactured by an NMMA member that is NMMA Certified. Eligible marine engine/motor dealers, not engaged in business as a boat retailer/dealer, must be an authorized dealer/retailer of marine engines produced by an NMMA engine manufacturing member. Eligible distributors must be an authorized distributor of products manufactured by at least five different NMMA accessory manufacturing members, or an authorized distributor of marine engines produced by an NMMA engine manufacturing member.
Exclusive North American Importer Membership Consideration
A business entity that is the exclusive importer for North America for a manufacturer of marine components or accessories, boats or engines is eligible for Membership as a “manufacturer” member in the appropriate division described above. Qualified import product must be manufactured outside North America and documentation from the manufacturer must be provided indicating an exclusive importing relationship.
