Restrictions and Fees

Membership with NMMA is open to any business entity that qualifies for one of the Membership Classifications set forth below:

Boat Manufacturer Division (BMD)

A BMD member is a business entity that manufactures boats. The BMD is made up of approximately 400 boat manufacturers representing the full gamut of recreational boats, from row boats and canoes to inboard cruisers and mega-yachts. To demonstrate its commitment to boating safety and a quality consumer experience, NMMA is requiring that all boat manufacturer members have their boats NMMA certified to ABYC standards, effective with the 2007 model year.

Engine Manufacturer Division (EMD)

An EMD member is a business entity that manufactures marine propulsion engines. The EMD is comprised of approximately 35 businesses that manufacture marine propulsion engines sold and distributed both nationally and internationally.

Accessory Manufacturer Division (AMD)

The AMD represents the more than 800 companies that manufacture marine equipment and materials used in the construction or upgrade of a boat or that produces a general marine-related product used to enhance the boating experience.

AMD applicants outside North America must demonstrate that they have obtained a certificate of authority from one state of the United States which shows that they are legally authorized to conduct business in that state, thereby submitting to its jurisdiction. Without proof of this certificate of authority your application for NMMA membership will not be considered.

Dealers or distributors are not eligible for membership in the NMMA.

Associate Member

An Associate member is a company that does NOT produce a physical product but provides a non-tangible service to the marine manufacturers and the boating public. The more than 250 Associate members represent an integral link in the boating experience chain. Associate Membership provides access to key customers, information resources and industry data.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

  • The dues structure for the three manufacturing divisions (BMD, EMD, AMD) is based on the annual sales in the marine industry for North America.
