BOAT YARDS & REPAIR FACILITY |
|
| Requirements to Become MIC Certified |
In this initial phase of the MIC Certification process, boat yards and similar repair- custom fabrication facilities will be MIC Certified based on their ability to provide trained and capable staff to deal with the needs of todayís customers. Overall organization requirements will be based on the number of employees per facility.
1. The facility must have a minimum of one Marine Industry Certified person in the three specialty certifications:
- Management
- Service Management
- Technical
Service Management requirements are the same as MIC-Certified Management requirements, except that the 40 hours of MIC-Certified training must include 15 hours of specific service management training and 15 hours of product or technical training.
2. Twenty-five percent of total full-time employees must complete an authorized Code of Conduct course.
3. Appropriate employees involved in the delivery process must complete the Delivering Hassle-Free Boating-An Industry Responsibility course.
If you are MIC Certified prior to January 1, 2001, this course is waived. After this date, this course is a requirement.
4. The facility must have a factory-certified technician for each engine or equipment franchise that it sells, if such certification is offered by the manufacturer.
For example, if the facility sells both Mercruiser stern drives and Westerbeke generators, it must have a factory-certified technician for each line. This requirement could be met by having one technician who is factory certified in both products.
5. Training the staff on improving their job skills is essential to increasing customer satisfaction.
Total training hours will be based on a percentage of the total staff in each specialty area. To determine the number of training hours required, please review the Individual Requirements (page 19-20) and use the formula and category ratio factors listed below.
